Tribute to the late Hon Justice David Amilcar Shikomera Majanja

We mourn the loss Hon. Justice David Amilcar Shikomera Majanja, Judge of the High Court of Kenya and Commissioner of the Judicial Service Commission.


Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, colleagues, and the entire Judiciary and JSC fraternity during this time of deep sorrow and sadness.


Justice Majanja will be remembered as a towering figure in the development of our transformative post-2010 jurisprudence and a crucial pillar in the institution-building of the JSC and the Judiciary.


We stand in solidarity with the family, friends, and the entire Judiciary and JSC community during this very difficult period of mourning.

As we mourn his departure, we also celebrate his remarkable life—a life devoted to fairness, integrity, and the tireless pursuit of justice. Justice Majanja was more than a colleague; he was a cherished friend to the entire Judiciary fraternity, whose memories and contributions will be honored and remembered for generations to come. Justice Majanja was a brilliant Judge. He was humble. He presided over his court with respect to all. Judge is gone, but his rich jurisprudence lives forever. May God comfort his family, Judiciary family and friends.


Fare thee well the Good, Bright, Kind and intelligent Judge. So much to learn from the departed Senior. The Legal Fraternity has lost a great mind. May the soul of Good Judge Rest in Eternal Peace 🙏🙏

You were more than a mentor to me. I remember the discussions we had. I remember your encouragement for me to pursue Law. Your interview questions for Judges at JSC awakened me up. Your questions on doctrine of avoidance, Muruatetu 1, Muruatetu 2, the locus classicus on arbitration ie Synergy, Geochem and Nyutu Agrovet cases etc...Ooh RIP Judge..Ooh my fellow Alliance High School alumni..Rest in Peace Maj.. A role model to many, the judge's courtroom was a place where every case was treated with meticulous care. His decisions were not only rooted in legal acumen but also imbued with a deep sense of humanity. Beyond the bench, the judge was a mentor, a guide, and a friend. He nurtured young minds, imparting lessons that extended beyond textbooks. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, the careers he shaped, and the principles he stood for. Though our Lordship has left us, his spirit endures in the halls of justice, in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him, and in the ongoing pursuit of a fairer, more just world. We remember not only a distinguished judge but also a profound human being whose life was a testament to the virtues we hold dear. His memory will continue to inspire and guide us for generations to come. Rest easy judge.


Find comfort in the light and sleep well in peace and rest. We will forever treasurer the memories of our interactions.


Asante sana, Omwami, Hon. Shikomera Majanja J. You have served your country very well in many capacities through your professional skills, talent and industry. Now your legacy shall be preserved in gold. Rest in Peace.


Your death Senior has dealt a blow to the legal profession. That you are gone, is hard to fathom! O, death where is your Sting? O grave, where is your victory!? You leave behind a rich legacy of diligence and commitment to duty. These shall out-live you. The people of Kenya are blessed to have had you at their service. May you pick up your reward in heaven above ... May the heavens open up to you. And may the angels receive You. Rest in eternal Peace Judge - till we meet again!
