Known 'Maj' since the seventies when we boarded together in Hill School. His was a beautiful mind and gentle soul. A powerhouse jurist who also loved to dabble as an amateur 'self-chef'. I will live to miss him. May he always soar in everlasting peace.
Justice Majanja - Gone but not forgotten . You positively impacted many lives , a role model , a giant in life and in principles . May the good Lord shine your path to heaven and grant you eternal life . Rest in peace bro .
Shem I still lack the right words to mourn you, there is a knot in my throat everytime I think of you.Thank you for showing me so much kindness and love.i wish I could make you that spicy matumbo and ugali that you loved.you were truly one special human ,Rest well David.
From March 9th 1992 when you were my first roommate in Hall 3 room 221 before you saw the light and left us in medical school to become the advocate who handled my affairs before transitioning eventually as the judge, you've always kept your sobriety, your good cheer, honesty and an extremely kind
heart.
Our journey as friends, shared accommodation when I joined campus for my master's degree and eventually as the best man at my wedding years ago( you slept during the homily), David, you have always been a reliable man.
It pains me and galls me that surgery brought ahead by a week meant I was not present at the moment when all this came down and thus I will always shed a tear and keep asking why this exit: you were to finish the house and pick a Dorper ewe from my farm as agreed but now who will really deserve this honor?
Fare thee well Daudi, fare thee well.
My heart bleeds and I tear as I pen this but I can only commit your soul to the Lord as on this case, painfully ,there's just
no appeal.
To a man for all seasons, good-bye Daudi.
Our dear son, jurist and a legal giant. I know you have gone to sleep awaiting the great day of resurrection. Indeed, you knew that all your efforts in making the best out of your work for sake of delivering justice to humanity will never end but will follow you beyond your bodily life. Surely, your good deeds outdo those of human errors and shortfalls. They way your balanced your tasks, family ties and friends relations proved your super performance. We loved and wished to be with you always but God found it worthy to be with you in the better part of the world. Just imagine how the marginalized, poor and forgotten felt when you stepped in to help them acquire justice. Surely, you are more than a jurist, a son, a brother and a legal giant. May your soul rest in eternal peace at the feet of Christ. Sleep well son.
Justice Majanja, or DM as I fondly called you, you were an incredible mentor and a guiding light for young lawyers. Your passion for justice was evident in everything you did. One of my most memorable moments with you was working together on the anti-counterfeit case that safeguarded access to life-saving ARVs, profoundly impacting the lives of those living with and affected by HIV. Your tagline, "Law is my life. Justice is my blood," truly captured your essence. Your legacy will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know and work with you. Go well, my Senior. Allan Maleche
A friend of many years, from the CIPEV days, through your days at the bar, and finally as a judge... We joked about the impending hospitalization on your last Saturday on earth. Little did I know that Saturday breakfast meeting was the last. Go well, Judge.
Though gone too soon, Justice David AS Majanja was the Kenya's most decorated jurist. He was a- 5 -star general of the Constitution. His rich legacy will outlives generations across generations. Indeed, Kenya has lost her excellent and exceptional son. Indeed, the judiciary has lost a pillar of justice. And indeed, the legal profession has lost a missionary for humanity and a prophet of the law.
Adieus Judge... You were loved in equal measure by both learned and unlearned. Small and mighty. Ordinary and extraordinary.
May your gentile soul find perfect peace at the feet of Christ Jesus.
A fallen warrior. He takes with him honesty, humility and Integrity.
I wish to pay my deep and heartfelt condolences to his family.
The Blessed Hope Titus 2:13
Sincerely,
Hon . Mary Ang'awa
Justice Majanja, it is still unbelievable that you are gone, but your legacy is immortal.
When you joined Hill School, Eldoret in 80s, you immediately upset the class ranking order by topping.
At the house elections, you won hands down and was voted the House Captain. Even the young kids knew you were special.
Boy, you loved to read, unlike anyone I have ever met. I was certain you would be a medical doctor or an astrophysicist, but you had your calling in law.
You were meticulous and a perfectionist, and the one-time I pointed a minute error in the Waki Report, you found it very amusing and really laughed.
The last time we met in Karen, you purposely found time to spend a few minutes with me. It was an honour.
Lastly, I bet I wasn't the only one counting the day you would be Chief Justice. Even though it wasn't to be, you played your role and exceptionally well.
Fare thee well David Majanja.
Class of 1986
Rest in peace brilliant Judge.
You were my dad's friend in the Judiciary and he spoke highly about you. I did not have the pleasure of meeting you but through your Instagram feed @kenyanjurist I saw a side of you that embodied the everyday life of a Judge. My sincere condolences to your bereaved family and may the eternal Judge be kind upon you Honourable Justice David Majanja.
A few years ago, I walked to Justice Majanja’s office for a business matter(referred to by his good friend David Onsotti). I asked the receptionist to let him know that I had arrived. In most offices, you are to wait for the receptionist to alert you when to go in. I was humbled to see Justice walk to me and introduce himself. It did not take long before I noted that he was very humble with fine brains. As we interacted and after a few meetings I realized that he had the kind of humor that could light up a room, the kind of smile that made you feel like everything was going to be alright. He was a storyteller, a weaver of tales. RIP David!
