Business Court Users Committee shows the way in Copyright Law
The Business Court Users Committee (BCUC) under the Commercial Division held its first monthly discourse dubbed The BCUC Lunch Series on 4th October 2018 during which Lady Justice Mary Kasango, the Division’s Presiding Judge, assured stakeholders that the monthly event will greatly improve the dispensation of justice in in the commercial sector.nnLady Justice Kasango noted that the regular event will help build capacity of the bench and other actors to adjudicate on the dynamic areas of commercial law.nnDuring the inaugural luncheon under the theme Trends in Copyright Law, Dr. Isaac Rutenberg, a senior lecturer and Director of the Centre for Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law (CIPIT) at Strathmore University, made a detailed and informative presentation on challenges in the infringement of copyright.nnThe forum also provided an avenue for Judges and magistrates of the Commercial Division to exchange ideas on copyright protection for literary, audio-visual works and broadcasts. nnAlso present during the forum which was sponsored by the International Development Law Organisation were representatives from the Law Society of Kenya, Kenya Copyrights Board, Kenya Industrial Property Institute and Kenya Association of Manufacturers.nnThe BCUC is a forum set up by the Judiciary, bringing together business associations, government bodies and non-profit organizations with an interest in improving the business environment.nn nn
