CJ Koome calls on advocates to adopt multi-door approach to delivery of justice

CJ Koome calls on advocates to adopt multi-door approach to delivery of justicennIt is a constitutional imperative that advocates, being priests in the temple of justice, which is what courts are, ought to be champions of access to justice for all especially the vulnerable in our society.nnSpeaking during admission of 114 lawyers to the Roll of Advocates, Chief Justice Martha Koome said Kenyans consider “justice” as a universal good and the law should be harnessed to ensure justice to all.nnShe said that an advocate committed to access to justice ought to embrace the constitutionally envisaged shift to focusing on the merit of cases rather than unnecessary interlocutory and technical applications that has contributed to the delay in resolution of cases.nnCJ Koome said advocates should adopt the multi-door approach to delivery of justice that recognises the utility of Small Claims Courts, Alternative Justice Systems, and Alternative Dispute Resolution in redressing societal grievances.nn“I urge lawyers to be ready to go the extra mile to ensure that the vulnerable in our society, such as victims of gender-based violence, children, persons living with disabilities, and persons from minority and marginalised communities, are enabled to access justice,” the CJ said.nnShe told them that their work should be informed by the goal and desire to promote access to justice to all especially the vulnerable in our society.nn nnnnnn
