Judicial Service Commission appoints Hon Mokaya as the new Chief Registrar of the Judiciary

Hon. Winrida Mokaya Boyani is the new Chief Registrar of the Judiciary. Mokaya was appointed after a competitive recruitment process, where six other candidates were interviewed for the post. Hon Mokaya replaces Hon Anne Amadi whose term came to an end this year.

Other candidates who were interviewed for the post are: Ms Rose Macharia Wachuka, Jack Ouma Busalile Mwimali, Ms Anne Wambeti Ireri, Hon Paul N. Maina, Hon Caroline Kendagor Jepyegen and Hon Kennedy Kandet Lenkamai.

“Following deliberation and careful consideration of the candidates based on merit, performance and suitability for the position, the JSC has appointed Hon. Mokaya Frida Boyani as the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary for a five-year term,” read the statement signed by JSC Chairperson, Chief Justice Martha Koome.

Hon Mokaya will serve for a five-year term as the Chief Administrator and Accounting Officer of the Judiciary. She will also be the Secretary to the Judicial Service Commission as well as Secretary to the National Council on Administration of Justice (NCAJ).

The Commission advertised the position of the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary on October 23, 2023, and received a total of 43 applications. The Commission shortlisted seven candidates who were interviewed on Monday March 18.

Hon. Mokaya has over 27 years’ experience in the legal profession. Prior to her appointment she has been serving as the Registrar, Judicial Service Commission since 2012. She joined the Judiciary in 1997 and served as a District Magistrate II(Prof), Resident Magistrate, Senior Resident Magistrate, Principal Magistrate and Senior Principal Magistrate. Hon. Mokaya holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi and a Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. She is also a Certified Public Secretary (CPS-K).
