Judiciary establishes third court in Nandi County
nEight hundred cases will now be heard and determined at the newly established Kabiyet Law Courts. Speaking during a ceremony to receive a refurbished court building funded by the Mosop Constituency, National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Anne Amadi said the new court at Kabiyet will relieve Kapsabet Law Courts of many cases that emanate from the area. The Chief Registrar added that Kabiyet Law Courts is the sixth Court to be established under the funding of the NG-CDF and the second in Nandi County after Tinderet Law Courts bringing the total number of courts in the county to three.
nnnn“The Judiciary will endeavor to match the beauty of the building with excellence in service delivery,” said the CRJ while receiving the court house which has two court rooms, a Registry and two chambers among other facilities.
nnnn“The Judiciary will make the court ICT ready to enable advocates practicing from Eldoret and Kapsabet to take part in virtual courts in tandem with their counterparts in other parts of the country where ICT has been deployed as an enabler of justice,” said Chief Registrar Anne Amadi.
nnnnMosop MP Vincent Tuwei said the court at Kabiyet will serve a population of 134,000 people who hitherto depended on the Kapsabet and Eldoret Law Courts. He added that the move to establish a court at Kabiyet is a step towards the realization of the constitutional requirement of having a court in every sub-county. He also revealed that adjacent land has also been donated for purposes of building a High Court station at Kabiyet. Nandi County has no High Court and relies on Eldoret High Court in neighboring Uasin Gishu County.
nnnnSamson Cherargei, Senator Nandi County, urged members of the National Assembly to allocate the Judiciary sufficient budget noting that most of the courts are old dilapidated and the Judiciary is increasingly relying on partnerships with County governments to enhance access to justice.
nnnnKapsabet Environment and Land judge Michael Mwanyale noted that Justice had come full cycle to Kabiyet since the court was first established in 1905 during the Nandi resistance.
‘’The court has now been re-established at Kabiyet 117 years later,” observed the Judge.
Other courts refurbished under the NG-CDF are Msambweni, Kenol, Rarieda, Ruiru and Tinderet Law Courts.
