Hon. Lady Justice Abida Ali-Aroni

Justice Abida Ali-Aroni holds Bachelors of Laws Degree from the University of Nairobi (1981 – 1985) and Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law (1985 – 1986).

Before joining judicial service, Justice Aroni worked at V.A. Nyamodi and Company Advocates in 1986 to 1988 before moving to Mugambi and Ali Advocates in 1988 to 1993. She was proprietor at Ali and Associates between 1994 and 2009 and served as vice chair of the People’s Commission (Ufungamano) in 2000 and 2001.

She was Vice Chair of the Constitution of Kenya Review Commission (CKRC) between 2001 and 2004 before she became chair to the commission serving between 2004 and 2006

She served as High Court Judge in Milimani Civil Division, Nairobi in 2009 before moving on to serve at Kisumu High Court between 2010 and 2012. Later, Judge Aroni worked at Milimani High Court between 2013 and 2014 and in Bungoma between 2015 and 2018.

She has been a consultant and a trainer in various fields including on Gender and International Conventions as well as in Jurisprudence of Equality, among others.

She is a member of various bodies, as well as founder and counsel member of the Federation of Women Lawyers – Kenya and founder and executive Director of Muslim Sisters Network, among other responsibilities.

She is a seasoned lawyer after having practiced for 23 years, and as a Judge for over the last 10 years. Judge Aroni currently serves at the Family Division of the High Court at Milimani.
