Hon. Lady Justice Millicent Odeny
Hon. Lady Justice (Dr.) Millicent Odeny was born in Kisumu County.
She holds the following academic and professional qualifications:
- Doctor of Laws (LLD) from the University of Pretoria
- Masters in Women’s Law from the University of Zimbabwe
- Bachelor of Laws from University of Nairobi
- Post Graduate Diploma in Law from Kenya School of Law
- Certificate in Legislative Drafting and several advanced short course certificates in Human Rights from the University of Pretoria
- Admitted to the Roll of Advocates in 1992
She has over 30 years experience in the legal profession.
She was appointed as an Environment and Land
Court Judge in 2016 and has served in Eldoret and Malindi.
Previous Experience
- Principal Lecturer at the Kenya School of Law.
- Land Lawyer for a USAID funded project in South
Sudan.
- Worked as a Consultant for various INGOs, NGOs and government institution both locally and internationally.
- Was in private practice in the firm of M. A Odeny & Co. Advocates.
Other Responsibilities
- Lead consultant for the Land Policy Initiative (LPI) study on “Strengthening women’s land rights in Africa” published in 2013.
- Carried out research on women’s land rights, monitoring and evaluation of projects and development of Strategic Plans.
- Trained Judges and Prosecutors at the Ministry of Justice in South Sudan on Rule of Law.
- Developed forest, environment by-laws for counties.
