Hon. Mr. Justice Milton S. A. Makhandia

Born in May 1958, Justice Asike Makhandia graduated from the University of Nairobi with Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree in 1983 before proceeding to the Kenya School of Law, qualifying in 1984 with a Post Graduate Diploma in law.

Before joining the judicial service, Justice Makhandia practiced as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya for 19 years starting out at Messrs. A.H Malik & Company Advocates. He started his law firm, Asike Makhandia Advocates and later Makhandia & Makhandia Advocates where he was managing partner between 1989 and 2003. During this period, he doubled up as a member of the council of the Law Society of Kenya as well as International Commission of Jurist (Kenya Section) where he was a Treasurer for over 12 years.

Justice Makhandia was appointed as a Puisne Judge of the High Court in December 2003, and served in Nairobi, Nyeri, Kisii and Machakos before he was elevated to the Court of Appeal in December 2012. Since his elevation, he has served in the Nairobi and Malindi Court of Appeal stations. Judge Makhandia is a member of the Performance and Measurement Steering Committee as well as the Chair of the Human Resources Policies and Procedures Manual Review Task Force.
