Hon. Mr. Justice Sankale ole Kantai

Justice Sankale ole Kantai holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi (1986), a Diploma in Laws from the Kenya School of Law (1987). He was admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya in 1987.

During his private legal practice, he worked as an Associate Advocate in the then leading law firm of Oraro and Rachier Advocates from 1988 to 1991. In 1991, he moved on to establish his law firm, Kantai & Company Advocates where he served as Principal Partner until 2012, when he was appointed as a Court of Appeal Judge. Kantai & Company Advocates handled major civil and commercial matters on behalf of banks and insurance companies as well as traffic matters for insurance companies.

Justice Kantai is a Member of the Law Society of Kenya, International Commission of Jurists, (Kenya Section), Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a Certified Public Secretary and a member of the Institute of Directors.

As an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, he served for three consecutive terms as the Chairman of the Value Added Tax Appeals Tribunal, dealing with disputes relating to appeals from parties on VAT assessment. In 1991, he was appointed a Commissioner of Oaths and became a Notary Public in 1994. He was admitted as a Member of Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in 2004. He became a Certified Public Secretary in 2006 and a member of the Institute of Directors in 2008.

Justice Kantai served for 12 years as Chancellor of the Anglican Church of Kenya, Diocese of Kajiado and as a council member of the International Commission of Jurists. In June 2010, he was appointed by President Mwai Kibaki, as a Judge of the Interim Independent Constitutional Disputes Resolution Court, a court established by the then Section 60A of the Constitution of Kenya.

He served as a Director of East African Portland Cement Company Limited where he chaired the Board Audit Committee between 2003 and 2008. Between 2006 and 2010, he worked as a Director of Rural Electrification Authority and as a Director of Blue Shield Insurance Company Limited, where he chaired the Board Human Resource Committee.

He served for two consecutive terms as Chairman of the Board of Governors, Oloolua Primary School and in the Board of Makini Schools as well as Kajiado Technical Institute. Justice Kantai is a member of various Clubs.
