Tribute to the late Hon Justice Daniel Ogembo Ogola

On behalf of the Judiciary and the Judicial Service Commission, it is with profound sadness that I announce the sudden passing of Hon. Justice Daniel Ogembo Ogola, Judge of the High Court of Kenya.

Justice Ogembo joined the Judiciary as a Magistrate in 2004 and was subsequently appointed Judge of the High Court in 2016. At the time of his passing, he was the Presiding Judge at the Siaya Law Courts.

We received the news as we were paying our final respects to Hon. Justice Majanja at the Friends International Centre, Ngong Road. The untimely passing of Hon. Justice Ogembo comes at a trying time for the Judiciary, Judicial Service Commission and the Nation at large.

This is a deep blow to the Judiciary family, the legal fraternity and our country. We are all devastated.

Hon. Justice Martha K. Koome, EGH
Chief Justice and Chairperson of the Judicial
Service Commission

Tributes Shared

Mine and justice Daniel Ogembo Ogola, dates back to high school, our formative years at St. Joseph's Rapogi High School, where sat for our O level exams in 1985. We simply called him Dan, for that is how we knew him. He was the same young man we sung with in the school choir, played soccer and Karate with, same Dan we had our cheeky escapades with as boys of Raps. On our midst, he lowered himself to our level, old boys. Since then, we continued with our tight relationship as the Raps 85 cohort, with Dan being part and parcel of what we did, periodically meeting for a bite. His death is a big blow to our Raps 85 cohort, for he was our flaming torch. RIP bro.

My heartfelt condolences to the family ,friends and Siaya judiciary fraternity.may the good Lord strengthen your faith during this trying moments.Justice OGEMBO was humble , intelligent and wise....REST IN PEACE SIR 🕊️🕊️🕊️

Such a refined and polished judicial officer. R.I.P

Hon. Justice Daniel, though I personally didn't interact with you, the soundings from the surrounding reflect you as a man of the people who dispensed justice rightfully and objectively. Your character, I believe will be an aroma in the heavens. Rest in peace till we meet again.

Judge you have left a very big gap in my heart that I don't if it will be filled you were a man of statute your advice will keep on lingering in my mind a very polite humble down to earth man you aren't like other judges who always like bulldozing their staff may your good soul rest in peace

Daniel, Your gentle heart, your deep insight, and wisdom will stay with us always. Your life was a blessing, and though you may have left us far too soon, but your loving presence will endure forever in our hearts and souls. Fare thee well my friend.

We had great plans to fruitilise AJS mechanisms in Siaya. Yes, you were on the wheel ready to move Siaya to embrace alternative justice systems. But you are no more. You were humble, simple, and a happy soul. Very meticulous in your work. RIP. Till we meet again.

My condolences to the family of the departed judge. He was an asset to the judiciary. Humble, intelligent and shown his wisdom during court proceedings when two opposing advocates are at loggerhead with one another. I am touched with his loss having been the last advocate to appear before him when he was in court last on the 16th of July 2024. Rest well my Lord 🙏

Rest in peace! You shall remain in our hearts and mind. You danced to the music of integrity! You embodied transparency and accountability! You listened and its our turn to listen to you, through your actions and performance! Till we meet again!

My heartfelt condolences to the family and friends may the good Lord strengthen your faith during this trying moment

A gentle, soft spoken, amiable yet outspoken and insightful man. He had the patient temperament and mien of a Judge. Illness cut him short too early. RIP brother Judge, you will be missed sorely.

You were humble judge. I can only call on the name of the lord at this point to usher you in with the dignity you deserve. Bravo judge

Your humility will never be forgotten. We are saddened by your demise which creates a hollow page in the whole of judiciary fraternity. Rest well Judge Ogembo
