CRJ Mokaya Mokaya engages newly appointed Resident Magistrates
Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, Hon. Winfridah Mokaya engaged newly appointed Resident Magistrates during their two-week long induction training. While sharing nuggets from her own professional journey, the CRJ emphasized the value of integrity, humility, and disciplined service to the people of Kenya.
She underscored that: “Integrity must anchor everything you do. I must therefore take this early opportunity to stress the value of integrity—which is the thread that must weave throughout your private and official life. You will certainly be confronted with situations that test your moral grounding and your fidelity to the law. I want to urge you to use such attempts and encounters to send the strongest message of integrity early in your career. It is the only way to live conscientiously in a society such as ours.” She further reminded the officers that: “Judicial power is not personal power; it is borrowed authority exercised on behalf of the people of Kenya. It is not a tool for settling frustrations, asserting status, or displaying control. It is a sacred trust—delegated to you for one purpose: to do justice, fairly, impartially, and with great restraint. The authority we hold belongs to the institution—not to our personalities. Judicial power must always rise above our emotions. Our decisions must be guided only by law, evidence, and the rights of the parties—not by how we feel about the individuals before us.” The CRJ urged the new magistrates never to lose sight of the human being behind every file, reaffirming that justice must at all times remain humane and empathetic.
