New members of the Media Complaints Commission take Oath of Office

Milimani Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Division Presiding Judge Lucy Njuguna presided over the swearing-in of Ms Lucy Minayo Lugatia and Anthony Nzau Musau as members of the Media Complaints Commission. Judge Njuguna said their duty is to uphold the principles of impartiality, diligence, and respect for all citizens as they adjudicate on matters involving disputes between the media, government and the general public. She urged them to stand firm in their oath and mandate saying that the commission is a cornerstone of democratic governance. “As you begin your term, you’ll encounter complaints that demand careful listening, equitable judgment, and clear communication. Your decisions must be rigorous, timely, and grounded in sound and solid evidence,” the judge said. She added: “Decisions, even when difficult, must be made, explained and documented. Recommendations should be actionable and pragmatic.” Among those present during the ceremony was Media Complaints Commission Chair Demas Kiprono and Media Council of Kenya (MCK) Chief Executive Office David Omwoyo. Ms Lugatia and Mr Musau are expected to serve for three years.
