Supreme Court Moot Court competition for law students kicks off

The Supreme Court of Kenya Annual Moot Court competition involving 16 universities is underway. The competition is part of the Supreme Court Mentorship Programme that begun last year. The competition brings together law students with the aim of sharpening their advocacy skills, courtroom etiquette, legal research and reasoning, drafting and case analysis.

This year’s competition which runs from 12th – 14th November, 2025 promises to be even more engaging, tackling complex and critical issues of international law – specifically refugee and migration rights. This theme resonates globally, reflecting urgent human rights challenges arising from conflicts across the globe. It is a discourse of immense relevance, one that scholars, practitioners, and defenders of human rights continue to grapple with.

Just as the inaugural moot preceded the SC@12 Conference, this year’s competition serves as a prelude to the IARMJ Conference, which begins next week, 17th to 21st November 2025. The synergy between the two events is deliberate, as both focus on migration and refugee rights. It is a privilege for Kenya to host the inaugural IARMJ Conference, bringing together distinguished jurists and scholars from across the globe.
