Hon. Mr. Justice (Prof) Joel Mwaura Ngugi

Prof Justice Joel Mwaura Ngugi was appointed Judge of the Court of Appeal in 2022. He holds Doctor of Juridical Sciences and Master of Laws from the Harvard University. He qualified for his Bachelor of Laws Degree at University of Nairobi in 1996 and Postgraduate Diploma in Law at the Kenya School of Law in 1997.

He taught at Ilkisonko Secondary School in 1994 before joining Kariuki Muigua & Company Advocates as Associate in 1996. He then moved on to serve as Legal Officer at United Nations Mission in Kosovo in 2002.

He was a Researcher at Weatherhead CTR (Harvard) and Fellow/TA at Harvard Law School in 2000 and 2001. He became Associate at Foley Hoag Boston in 2002 until 2004 when he became Associate Professor at University of Washington. He served in this position until 2011 when he was appointed Judge of the High Court.

Judge Ngugi has authored many articles, publications and won several awards. He was admitted to the Roll of Advocates in 1998.
