Hon. Lady Justice Fatuma Sichale
Justice Fatuma Sichale is a representative of the Court of Appeal at the Judicial Service Commission.
Born in 1958 and an alumna of Kapsabet Girls and Alliance Girls High Schools, Lady Justice Fatuma Sichale, holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi and is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Public International Law.
She was admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya in March 1983. Upon admission, Lady Justice Sichale had a brief stint as an advocate at the defunct Kitale Municipal Council before joining the Judiciary as a District Magistrate II (Prof).
She resigned from the Magistracy in 1987 after having risen to the rank of Resident Magistrate, to venture into private practice, where she remained until 2004. As a practitioner, she handled numerous matters with a bias in land and criminal cases.
She developed a keen interest in the fight against corruption. Her breakthrough in this area of governance came in the year 2004 when she was appointed as a Board Member of the National Anti- Corruption Campaign steering committee. In the same year, she was appointed one of the seven Board members of the then Kenya Anti-Corruption Authority (KACA) where she served up to 2000.
In 2004, Judge Sichale was nominated by FIDA (K) to the Board membership of Kenya Anti – Corruption Commission (KACC). She later resigned from the Board and competitively vied for the position of Assistant Directorate, Legal Services. Within six months of her appointment as Assistant Director, Legal services, Lady Justice Sichale was appointed the Deputy Director, the second highest office in the organization, where she served until 2009.
During the same year, she earned the national honour of Moran of the Order of Burning Spear (MBS).
Lady Justice Sichale also served as a Board Member of Kenya Forest Service where she chaired the Human Resources Committee. She has been a council member of Law Society of Kenya (LSK) as well as FIDA (K).
Shortly after her appointment as Chairperson of the Communication Appeals Tribunal in 2012, she resigned from the position to assume the position of a Judge of Appeal.
