Ethical Leadership in Public Finance: Human Rights Dimensions of Taxation and Debt Management

A Panel on Ethical Leadership in Public Finance: Human Rights Dimensions of Taxation and Debt Management during the High Court Annual Human Rights Summit. The panelists who included Alexander Rithi of the Institute of Social Accountability-TISA, Henry Gichana of Katiba Institute, Jason Braganza of African Forum on Debt and Development and Leonard Wanyama of the East Africa Forum on Debt and Development Network delved into the intersection of tax burden, debt distress and human rights and related issues during the session that was moderated by Angela Wangeci of the Institute of Social Accountability.

They explored ways of ensuring upholding of human rights and achieving their sustainability amid government projects/programmes that push the cost to the common mwananchi. They underscored the need for provision of checks and balances on new, innovative products in order for them to comply with the Constitution.
