Budget Reduction to affect JTI Activities

The National Treasury recently directed budget reduction on the current budget of the Judiciary due to low performance of revenue and emerging priorities. In a Circular dated 25th September 2017, the Treasury cited repeat of the Presidential election, insecurity, drought response measures and the government’s counterpart funds requirement as some of the reasons for this call. This has consequently affected various Judiciary departments’ budgets, with the Judiciary Training Institute (JTI) budget being revised downwards by about 75 per cent. COURT OF APPEAL JUDGES TRAINED ON LEGAL FRAMEWORK FOR REVENUE AND TAX LAWS

JTI conducted a training workshop for Court of Appeal Judges from 12th to 15th October, 2017. The main agenda of the training was discussions around revenue and taxation issues that relate to law. Among other issues discussed were the role of Kenya Revenue Authority in the economy, assessments relating to various tax heads (VAT, Income Tax & Excise), a presentation on dispute resolution mechanisms within Tax Law- (objections and appeals),elaborate enforcement of tax recovery, law and challenges and understanding the role of intelligence gathering in tax administration and emerging areas and challenges.   Others were Community Law and emerging issues in Customs administration, participants...

INDUCTION OF NEW STAFF

In order to enhance the human resource capacity of the Judiciary, the Judicial Service Commission recruited over 1200 Judiciary staff during the 2016/2017 financial year.The staff includes secretaries, clerical officers, court interpreters, ICT officers and archivists. JTI has been conducting inductions for the new staff in groups of approximately 250 participants. The last group is set to be inducted from 15th to 18th November, 2017. The ELRC held a workshop for its Judges from  October 4 to 7, 2017. The workshop was  themed "Striving towards an efficient Employment and Labour Relations Court with a focus on Sustaining Judiciary Transformation: opportunities, challenges and strategies”. Performance Management and Measurement Understanding (PMMU) for JTI

JTI negotiated performance targets and contracts with PMMU during 2016/2017 financial year to cascade the contents of the contract to the staff of the institute. The Judiciary holds its Annual Sports Day – May 26 and 27, 2017

Chief Justice David Maraga today presided over the official opening ceremony of the Judiciary Annual Sports Day held at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies (KSMS), Nairobi. The two-day event that ends on Saturday was graced by World Marathon holder, Eliud Kipchoge. Teams from 15 regions across all court stations are participating in different outdoor and indoor games.
