CJ’s Message of condolence to the family and friends of the Late Justice Samuel Mukunyan

FRIDAY, September 14, 2018

n

I have learnt with great sadness about the demise of Justice Samuel Mukunya through a tragic road accident early this morning.

n

Justice Mukunya, who served at the Environment and Land Court in Kerugoya, was appointed Judge in December 2012 and served in Mombasa until September 2014 when he was transferred to Bungoma. He served there until April 3, 2018 when he moved to Kerugoya.

n

Prior to his appointment he practiced as an advocate of the High Court. He also served as a judge of the Interim Independent Constitutional Dispute Resolution Court (IICDRC) in 2010.

n

Judge Mukunya was an outstanding jurist who served the country with great diligence and dedication. I have known him since our days at the University of Nairobi and I always admired his sense of duty and hard work. I had the privilege of working closely with him when I practiced as a lawyer in Nakuru and he operated a branch of his law firm there.

n

Justice Mukunya was humble yet very knowledgeable and always ready to serve. He was well liked within the legal fraternity. His sudden death is a big loss not only to his family but to the Judiciary and the country as a whole.

n

On behalf of Judicial Service Commission and on my own behalf, I wish to extend our deepest condolences to his dear wife Nancy and their children, the rest of the family, the Judiciary and the Kenyan people whom he served with great dedication.

n

May God give you fortitude to bear this great loss.

n

 Hon. David K. Maraga, EGH,

n

Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court of Kenya.
