CJ presides over the swearing in of SRC & PSC Commissioners

Chief Justice Martha Koome on January 20, 2024 presided over the swearing-in ceremony for the ?Chairperson and Commissioners of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), ?and the Vice-Chairperson and Commissioners of the Public Service Commission (PSC). ?The SRC members who took the Oath of Office include Sammy Chepkwony ??(Chairperson), Jane Gatakaa Njage, Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Martin Kizito Ong’oyi, Mohammed ?Aden Abdi, Dr Geoffrey Apollo Omondi, Dr. Gilda Odera & Leonid Ashindu. ?

Those members who were sworn in for the PSC are; Mary Wanjira Kimonye (Vice ?Chairperson), Harun Maalimu Hassan, Mwanamaka Amani Mabruki, Boya Molu, Dr ?Irene Cherotich Asienga, Dr Francis Otieno Owino, Joan Andisi Machayo and Francis ?Meja.?

The CJ said the two commissions are indispensable to Kenya’s aspirations for a well-?functioning, people-centred public service. ?

?“The Constitution envisions a public service that is not only efficient and motivated but ?also one that operates with the highest levels of integrity, professionalism, and ?adherence to constitutional values and principles. The work you undertake will have a ?direct bearing on how our public institutions serve Kenyans and uphold their rights.”?

She added that the SRC must continue to balance the expectations of public officers for ?equitable remuneration with the constitutional imperative of fiscal responsibility ?whereas the PSC must lead in creating a public service that is competent, inclusive, ?and efficient, while fostering a culture of innovation and responsiveness to the needs ?of all Kenyans.
