Family division kicks off communication campaign on succession

The Milimani Law Courts Family Division in partnership with KELIN – Kenya Legal and Ethical Issues on HIV/AIDS – launched information education and communication materials on succession matters at the Milimani Law Courts.nnThe event was graced by chief guest Hon. Lady Justice Lydia Achode (Principal Judge) who launched the booklets alongside KELIN Board Secretary Otiende Amollo, Hon Mr. Justice Aggrey Muchelule (Presiding Judge, Family Division) with representatives from the Judicial Service Commission and the Office of the Public Trustee who were also present.nnHon. Lady Justice emphasized the importance of translation of succession information booklets into local languages for easier comprehension of legal requirements. She also encouraged similar forums for the justice system to interact with the public.nnHon. Mr. Justice Muchelule emphasized that the Judiciary, in partnership with the event sponsors, aimed at bringing justice closer to the people by demystifying the court processes on successions matters, by working towards helping widowers, widows and children, through availing knowledge on how to get justice and inherit land.nn“The backlog of cases has been reduced from 25,000 cases from 1980 to 8500 cases to date. We aim to solve all cases involving three years and below this year.”nnThe awareness week runs from 25th February until 1st March 2019, and members of the public are invited to visit the Milimani Law Courts to get relevant information as well ask questions, and seek information. Materials will also be available in all court stations.nn nn nn
