New members of CAJ, NGEC and IPOA sworn-in

Chief Justice Martha Koome today presided over the swearing-in ceremony of chairpersons and members of the Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ), National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC), and the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA).

The Chief Justice said the Constitution entrusted them with advancing its aspirations and safeguarding its principles, as outlined in Article 249(1), which provides that the objects of constitutional commissions and independent offices are to: protect the sovereignty of the people; secure the observance by all State organs of democratic values and principles; and, promote constitutionalism.

“Each of your commissions plays a unique and indispensable role in strengthening Kenya’s democratic framework and ensuring the dignity, rights, and freedoms of all our people,” the CJ said.

She added: “In the face of challenges, let the Constitution be your guide. Let public service and the rule of law be your compass. And let the confidence placed in you by the people of Kenya inspire you to pursue excellence and innovation in delivering on your mandates.”

She urged them to embrace the opportunity to lead with vision and determination noting that their legacy will be measured by the depth of the impact they make in advancing the rights, dignity, and aspirations of the Kenyan people.

“The oath you have taken today is a solemn one. It requires you to always act within the law and to serve this country with diligence, integrity, and impartiality,” CJ Koome said.

She affirmed the Judiciary’s commitment to supporting their work saying that the shared constitutional duty to advance justice, accountability, and good governance requires close collaboration and mutual reinforcement.

Those who were sworn in include: Charles Orinda Dulo (Chairperson, CAJ) and members Charles Njagua Kanyi and Dorothy Jemator Kimengech; and, Rehema Dida Jaldesa (Chairperson, NGEC) and Michael Mbithuka Nzomo (member, NGEC).

Others who took their oaths of office are: Ahmed Issack Hassan (Chairperson, IPOA) and members; Dr Annette Mudola Mbogoh, Kenwilliams Nyakomitah, Boniface Kipkemoi Samati, Ann Wanjiku Mwangi, Jackline Lukalo Mwenesi, John Muchiri Nyaga and Dr Micah Onyiego Nyakego.

The Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, Hon Winfridah Mokaya, administered the oaths.
