The Judiciary holds its Annual Sports Day – May 26 and 27, 2017

Chief Justice David Maraga today presided over the official opening ceremony of the Judiciary Annual Sports Day held at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies (KSMS), Nairobi. The two-day event that ends on Saturday was graced by World Marathon holder, Eliud Kipchoge. Teams from 15 regions across all court stations are participating in different outdoor and indoor games. HIGHLIGHT OF THE CHIEF JUSTICE BLUEPRINTS

Chief Justice David Maraga launched his Strategic Blueprint on January 25th 2017, titled Sustaining Judiciary Transformation: A New Service Delivery Agenda. Training on electoral dispute resolution enhanced

The training of Judges and judicial officers on election dispute resolution has been going on in all regions in Kenya with the aim of equipping them with more sufficient knowledge on the matter, in readiness for the 2017 election disputes. It is expected that the trainings will help the judicial officers and staff adjudicate election contests in a most expeditious, effective and impartial manner. The annual Judiciary Sports Day will be held from 25th to 28th May in Nairobi. The Judiciary Training Institute (JTI) has already formed a technical committee which comprises staff members from different offices and directorates within the Judiciary to begin the preparations for the event. JTI PRIORITY NOW ON EDR TRAINING

Since the beginning of the year, the JTI has been a hive of activity, concentrating on Election Dispute Resolution training, in partnership with the Judiciary Committee on Elections. This follows a directive by the Honourable Chief Justice, David Maraga, to scale down on other trainings and prioritise EDR training. HARNESSING THE POWER OF SOLAR TO DELIVER JUSTICE AT KILUNGU LAW COURTS

The installation of solar panels by the Court Users Committee (CUC) has improved delivery of service at the Kilungu Law Courts.  The Law Courts had been facing frequent power outages which caused delays in delivery of services. Proceedings in Court were affected as well as the typing of decisions on cases. Court rooms, registries, offices and cells were also plunged into darkness with every power outage. The court was also forced to outsource typing services with the attendant costs and inefficiencies. KAJIADO LAW COURT CONSTRUCTION COMMENCES

The construction site for the new Kajiado High Court building was handed over to Misbah Network Limited Contractors. The new court building will cost Ksh.351million and is expected to take 18 months to complete. The new court will bring justice closer to the residents of the expansive Kajiado County. JUDICIARY CONTINUES TO SET TARGETS

Performance evaluation and target setting exercise was conducted by several teams from the Performance Management and Measurement Steering Committee with technical support from Performance Management Directorate. Using the Performance Management and Measurement Understandings (PMMUs) instruments, the process entailed systematic setting of performance targets and assessing achievements made against evidence of implementation.
